Why are we upgrading?

Zimbra 6 is a major revision to the Zimbra Email System. This upgrade provides a large number of bug fixes as well as feature enhancements. These fixes and enhancements will make the Portal and Outlook much more reliable as well as easier to use. When is Zimbra 6 going live?

Zimbra is being upgraded on June 20th, 2010. On that date, you will notice a change to the look of Zimbra on the Portal.

What changes will I see in Outlook?

The key changes to Outlook are:

  • Outlook rules now work. These are rules that only run when Outlook is open. These are useful for tasks like moving mail into your personal folders.
  • Outlook can be set to download only message header information.

What changes will I see in the Portal?

The key changes to the Portal are:

  • Mandatory spell check of mail messages can be enabled.
  • Mail Filters now let you run rules over existing sets of mail.
  • Composing a message and opening a single message now opens a new tab.
  • Viewing a message in a separate window now includes all the read mail features, including reply, forward, print, tag, delete, etc.
  • The Sharing folder lets you manage all your shared folders from one place.
  • You can set the default Public/Private status for all appointments on your Calendar.
  • Enhanced scrolling retrieves messages dynamically as the user approaches the bottom of the current list.
  • Read Receipts are now available.
  • Improvements were made to printing messages, address book tasks, and calendars.

How will this effect my Cal Poly mobile phone?

Users with BlackBerry devices will not see any changes to their service. Users with other devices will see improved syncing of email, contacts and calendar items.
