Cal Poly keeps a detailed inventory for most of the University's equipment. When the University acquires a piece of equipment, it is tagged by the campus Property Office with a State of California ID number. The equipment is then added to the Property Ledger along with notation of its physical location and its ownership department.

Departments must notify the Property Office of any physical location transfers within a department, transfers to another campus department, and if they no longer wish to keep the equipment (sale or disposal) and want it deleted from their inventory.

Authorized removal of state owned equipment from campus must be documented via an approval form which is kept on file at the department office for inspection during Inventories. Property Office activities are managed within Fiscal Services. Staff may be contacted via email or telephone.
