Covid-19 Response: SBS - Distribution Services

SBS-Distribution Services is continually reassessing operational plans in light of all current events, specifically regarding COVID-19 procedures and campus essential need. Our focus will be on maintaining essential needs to campus while minimizing on-campus exposure to employees. Given the evolving nature of the COVID-19 response, our hours and procedures are subject to change. We will do our best to notify the campus with any changes prior to implementation.

When is mail being delivered?

Mail is being delivered twice a week to most locations with a few exceptions. For your department's mail delivery schedule, please email

What about packages?

Packages are still being delivered to normal designated delivery points on a daily basis with the exception of smaller items that typically get placed with the mail; see above.

My department is not coming on to campus. How can we have things like checks processed?

Consider having your department's mail rerouted to a higher level (i.e. deans office or parent department. College of Business and College of Engineering have already elected to have most of their individual department's mail to their respective dean's office or college mail room. We are happy to do this on a department basis but are not able to offer this on an individual per person basis.

I have packets I need to send to my students. How do I best accomplish this?

SBS - Distribution Services is suggesting that you sign up for a UPS CampusShip account if you haven't already done so. CampusShip allows users to process and print UPS shipping labels while charging shipping costs to a department chartfield string and obtaining university rates. This also allows the user to drop off packages at a local UPS Store if you're working from home and its not feasible or advisable to come to campus. Completed shipments can also be dropped off at SBS -Distribution Services or a pickup can be scheduled from departments on campus. If you wish to sign up for an account, please obtain pre-approval from your department administrative assistant or other authorizing personnel, then send an email to requesting a UPS CampusShip account. Please include your name, Cal Poly username, and department id number.

How are Staples deliveries being handled?

For the entirety of the campus lockdown, Staples will be making deliveries of all orders directly to SBS-Distribution Services. SBS-Distribution Services will make the final delivery to the department office. This is done to ensure orders are not left unprotected outside of offices.
