A rare look inside three Facilities Operations Trade Shops; Carpenter Shop, Paint Shop, and Fleet Services. This guided tour will take you into the shops for a look at where our trades work, take their breaks, store materials and tools, and provide an opportunity to chat with supervisors and technicians. This walking tour requires long pants and sturdy closed toed shoes.

Acquiring a vehicle for your department? Need to sign up new drivers? Wondering how to get your department vehicles in proper running order? Look no further! In this NEW one stop shop session participants will learn all about how to properly procure a new vehicle, how to make sure all your drivers have the right forms and training, and what’s needed to keep your vehicle going going going for all your departmental needs. Come join our panelists and let us dispel the mystery around state vehicles (including carts!) with helpful tips and more!

When do I need a project manager?
Why do I need a project manager?
What services will a project manager provide me?

This class will provide users with a complete understanding of the steps required to request and complete projects. We will help you understand requirements to deliver projects on campus. Clients will leave this session with an understanding of how to ensure a successful project including what approvals are needed, how to plan for budgets and schedule, and determine scope.

Office Ergonomics: Let's Get Comfortable!
  • Are you wondering how to correctly adjust your office so you can be more comfortable?
  • Are you feeling discomfort at your workstation?
  • What is the latest on the sit/stand desk? Participants will learn the components of a Healthy Workstation:
  • How to properly adjust your chair, monitor, and keyboard and desk space
  • Common risk factors for discomfort and how to make appropriate adjustments to gain comfort and avoid injury

General understanding of the reasons a permit is required and the permit process.

Activities Requiring a Building Permit:

  • Any furniture installation
  • Activity that will disturb any building surface (interior or exterior) Any activity with temporary membrane structures, tents, or canopies
  • Any activity that may add, alter or modify ADA requirements Awnings and trellises
  • Building additions, alterations, remodels and/or tenant improvements
  • Electrical, mechanical, plumbing or building additions or alterations
  • Equipment installation requiring more than plug and cord
  • Security & intrusion alarms including keypads, card swipes, panic buttons etc.
  • Signage installation, modification or removal
  • Garden walls and retaining walls
  • Landscaping and related improvements or modifications, including drainage
  • Patios, decks and fences
  • Activities involving building or roof structures
  • Satellite dish or antenna installations, modifications or removals on campus
  • Any activity in or adjacent to a designated waterway, creek or drainage route
  • Any underground or overhead work
