Amtrak

Amtrak Pacific Surfliner is the preferred southern CA train route when traveling in and around California from Cal Poly. Pacific Surfliner covers the CA Counties of San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo.

Amtrak Coast Starlight & Amtrak Capitol Corridor are the preferred northern CA train routes when traveling in and around California from Cal Poly. These train routes cover a multitude of Bay Area & Northern CA counties and cities. Coast Starlight will get you from SLO to San Jose, then from there you will continue on the Starlight route or transfer to a Capitol Corridor route depending on your final destination.

Amtrak Thruway Bus

Cal Poly partners with Amtrak to offer an on campus Amtrak Thruway Bus service for Cal Poly community members. The bus will pick you up on Cal Poly campus at the Amtrak bus stop (located across the street from Scout Coffee) and connect you to your train whether that be in San Luis Obispo or in another city to the north or south. You can use this connecting bus service for your train departure as well as your return, making it a full-service transportation option from on campus. To utilize the Amtrak Thruway Bus service from Cal Poly type 'SLP' in your “From” destination and/or type 'SLP' in your “To” destination. 'SLP' is the name of the Thruway Bus stop on Cal Poly campus. If you use 'SLP' as your destination it will automatically factor in the bus pickup and/or drop off into your train ticket.

Amtrak Student Discounts

Amtrak offers student discounts to students aged 17-24 that will qualify you for 15% off your ticket price. To qualify, purchases must be made at least one (1) day in advance. With downtown-to-downtown service, spacious seating, complimentary Wi-Fi and more than 500 destinations nationwide, explore everywhere from small towns to big cities with comfort and ease. The discount will automatically be applied when qualifying travel is selected. Or use the Amtrak app and enter code V814 when booking your trip.
