Continuity of Operations Plan

Cal Poly follows the CSU Business Continuity Program Executive Order No. 1014 for implementing and maintaining an ongoing program that ensures the continuity of essential functions or operations following or during the recovery phase of a catastrophic event. The Cal Poly Business Continuity Program provides management framework for resuming critical functions and operations after an emergency situation. In accordance with policy of the CSU, the campus President has the responsibility for implementing executive orders where applicable and for maintaining the campus repository and index for all executive orders.

Cal Poly will develop, document, test and maintain a Business Continuity Plan. In order to achieve increased ownership, oversight and compliance for the Cal Poly Business Continuity plans, the Business Continuity Planning Committee was established to transition responsibility to it from the BCP Coordinator on 7/1/12.

The following departments have been identified as critical (would impact the University within 24 hours and impact life and safety, major financial, legal or regulatory consequence or liabilities) and are required to have an Operations Continuity Plan:

  • Academic Personnel
  • Admissions, Recruitment and Financial Aid
  • Procurement Services
  • Disability Resource Center
  • Facilities Services
  • Fiscal Services
  • Food Services
  • Health and Counseling Services
  • Housing and Residential Life
  • Human Resources
  • Information Technology Services
  • Instruction
  • Research
  • University Police
  • University Scheduling

Cal Poly's Business Continuity Plan template will be used for the consistent development of the plans and is used to document key information within a department in order to ensure the campus' ability to recover from a disruption.
