TAPS/DRC Disability Tram

Accessible Cal Poly campus tram with a wheelchair lift

Transportation & Parking Services (TAPS) has partnered with the Disability Resource Center (DRC) of Cal Poly to provide on-campus transportation service to eligible students registered with the DRC office. Tram service is available to students with permanent or temporary mobility impairments.

Hours of Operation

  • During the school year, the service operates from 6:45 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • During the summer, the service operates from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Tram Process & Responsibilities

Student Responsibilities

  • Verify disability with the DRC before rides can begin.
    • Complete the DRC Application for Services.
    • Provide medical documentation from your physician.
  • Complete the Student Rights and Responsibilities, On-Campus Transportation Agreement, and Recurring Ride Form with DRC before rides can begin.
    • Obey California state laws requiring the use of safety belts.
  • Regularly scheduled riders: Complete a semester tram schedule.
  • On-call riders: Call (805) 756-6184. Call-ins must be made at least three hours before the requested ride time.
    • Scheduled riders have priority over call-in riders.
    • During the school year, all call-in rides must be made before 5 p.m.
  • Email drctram@calpoly.edu if there are any changes to scheduled pick-up times or locations, or to cancel a ride.
  • Email drctram@calpoly.edu as soon as possible if there is a change or addition to your mobility equipment.

No-Show Policies

  1. A no-show will cancel all of the day's scheduled rides unless the student contacts TAPS Tram staff.
  2. The driver will wait no longer than two minutes beyond the scheduled pick-up time. Failure to come to a ride within two minutes results in a no-show.
  3. Two consecutive no-shows will terminate tram services until the student meets or speaks with a DRC professional staff member.
