Academic Pay Plan - Quarters
Payment is made to academic year employees, on the quarter system, according to the following Academic Pay Plan:
Fall Quarter Winter Quarter Spring Quarter September January April October February May November March June December April/August* July Please note: Spring Quarter begins before all payments for Winter Quarter are received
*The fourth Winter Quarter payment is deferred until the August pay period if employment is continued for Spring Quarter. Consequently, faculty with both Winter and Spring appointments whose Winter appointment involves any of the following circumstances may potentially receive an adjusted August payment that is less than the July pay:
- Winter time base is less than Spring time base
- Less than full-pay sabbatical or difference-in-pay leave during Winter and returning to full-time work status during Spring
- Unpaid leave of absence (leave without pay), disability leave, or dock in pay during Winter
- Initial start date after the first day of Winter Quarter (late start)

Academic Pay Plan - Semesters
The academic year payment schedule applies to faculty and teaching associates appointed for one semester, an academic year, and consecutive fall and spring semesters. In general, faculty and teaching associates receive six (6) equal payments for each semester over a six month period. Academic year or consecutive fall and spring appointments will receive twelve payments over a twelve month period.
The months listed below represent the pay period covered by each payment. Payments are issued on the first day of the following pay period.

SEP OCT NOV DEC JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUGFall 2026 begins on August 17, 2026 and ends on December 22, 2026. The first paycheck for the semester is scheduled for September 30, 2026 or October 1, 2026 for direct deposit. The first pay period includes academic work days from August 17, 2026 through September 30, 2026.
Spring 2027 begins on January 22, 2027 and ends on May 25, 2027. The first paycheck for the semester is scheduled for March 1, 2027 or March 2, 2027 for direct deposit. The first pay period includes academic work days from January 22, 2027 through March 1, 2027.
The final paycheck for tenure track, academic year, and consecutive fall and spring appointments is paid in the August pay period. These earnings reflect the timebase/units and salary assigned in the fall semester.
- Late start – the effective date of the appointment is after the first day of the semester.
- Leave without pay or dock time – if any academic days in the semester are reported as unpaid.
- Less than full-pay sabbatical or difference-in-pay leave during Fall and returning to full-time work status during Spring
- Timebase changes – changes in teaching load (WTU’s) effective mid-month or after the first day of the semester.
