The Clery Act requires higher education institutions to disclose information about crime on and around
their campuses, and is enforced by the United States Department of Education.
The Clery Act requires colleges and universities to publish an annual security report by October 1. The
law requires schools make the reports available to all current students and employees, and readily
available to prospective students and employees upon request.
The report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as:
crime prevention, university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, and
disciplinary procedures. It also contains information about crime statistics for the three previous
calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or
property owned or controlled by Cal Poly; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and
accessible from the campus.

The Cal Poly Police Department (CPPD) is committed to transparency through communication and engagement
with members of the campus community. In July of 2022, the Board of Trustees approved the system-wide
Regulated Tools and Equipment policy. This policy was adopted as outlined by Assembly Bill 481 and
requires that every law enforcement agency in the State of California publish certain information
annually regarding specified equipment.
To further our efforts toward transparency and open communication, CPPD will host a community
engagement event to discuss information contained within this report, on November 13, 2024 at 4 p.m.
in Building 36, Room 105 (Public Safety Training Room), the Public Safety Training Room. The community engagement event is open to all
students, faculty and staff at Cal Poly.
