News and Press Releases

The Cal Poly Maritime Academy Police Department is committed to fostering a secure, welcoming, and resilient environment where students, faculty, staff, and visitors can thrive.

Our 2026–2029 Strategic Plan reflects a renewed focus on prevention, modernization, collaboration, and professional excellence. Guided by data, best practices, and strong campus partnerships, we are advancing a proactive public safety model that emphasizes early intervention, transparency, and community trust.

2026–2029 Strategic Plan

  • Priority 1: Enhance Campus Safety Through Prevention-Focused Policing

We are strengthening our prevention efforts by implementing proactive patrol strategies, expanding visibility, and using data to identify emerging risks before they escalate. Through scheduled safety loops, improved lighting, enhanced signage, and expanded bike and scooter infrastructure, we are creating a safer physical environment.

Our partnerships with Benicia PD, Vallejo PD, and Vallejo Fire deepen our regional readiness and coordination. We are also expanding outreach initiatives — including alcohol awareness education, trauma-informed training, and residence hall engagement — to reinforce a culture of shared responsibility for safety.

  • Priority 2: Modernize Technology, Infrastructure, and Operational Capabilities

To meet the evolving needs of our campus, we are investing in modern tools that enhance situational awareness and emergency response. Upgrading our camera system, incident command technology, and mobile data terminals will strengthen operational efficiency.

New digital campus maps, improved records management, and critical infrastructure upgrades — including an emergency generator — ensure that our department remains resilient, responsive, and aligned with current legal and technological standards.

  • Priority 3: Advanced Training, Professional Development, and Officer Wellness

Our personnel are our greatest asset. We are committed to comprehensive training that aligns with California POST standards and best practices in higher education. Emphasizing de-escalation, cultural competency, and trauma-informed response ensures our team is prepared to serve with professionalism and empathy.

We are also prioritizing officer wellness by promoting programs that support physical, mental, and emotional health, recognizing that a healthy workforce delivers the highest quality service.

  • Priority 4: Parking Efficiency and Improvement

We are modernizing our parking operations through data-driven enforcement, improved planning, and enhanced communication. By leveraging analytics and focusing on education and voluntary compliance, we aim to reduce repeat violations and create a more efficient, user-friendly parking experience for the entire campus community.
