Patrol

Cal Poly Police Department (CPPD) patrol officers provide 24-hour police response and public safety services for the Cal Poly campus. Officers respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, investigate reported crimes and safety concerns, conduct visible patrols, enforce applicable laws and university policies, and coordinate with other public safety agencies when needed.

California State University police officers are sworn peace officers under California law. CPPD officers receive required law enforcement training and participate in continuing training intended to support lawful, professional, and effective service.

Common calls for service include crimes in progress, suspicious activity, medical emergencies, fires, collisions, hazardous materials concerns, alarms, welfare checks, noise or disorderly conduct complaints, thefts, and requests for public safety assistance.

CPPD works with the City of San Luis Obispo Police Department, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office, fire and emergency medical services, and other agencies through applicable law, mutual aid, and written agreements. Enforcement and assistance are provided without unlawful discrimination and consistent with constitutional rights and CSU policy.
