How to Make Police Reports
Call 911 for emergencies, crimes in progress, immediate threats, medical emergencies, fires, or any situation requiring urgent police, fire, or medical response.
For non-emergency police reports or questions, call Cal Poly Police Department (CPPD) Dispatch at 805-756-2281. Report crimes, suspicious activity, threats, theft, vandalism, collisions, lost or found property, and other safety concerns as soon as possible.
When making a report, provide your location, what happened, when it happened, descriptions of people or vehicles involved, whether weapons or injuries are present, and how officers can contact you. If you are unsure whether to report something, call CPPD and a dispatcher can help route your concern.
Police reports and related information may be used for law enforcement, campus safety, Clery Act reporting, public records responses, or university processes as allowed or required by law. Victim identifying information and sensitive information will be protected or limited when required by law and policy, but CPPD cannot promise absolute confidentiality in every circumstance.
People reporting sexual assault, dating or domestic violence, stalking, discrimination, harassment, or retaliation may also contact campus advocacy and Civil Rights and Title IX resources. A person may request support and learn about options without deciding immediately whether to participate in a criminal investigation.
