Ladder Safety Program

Ladders are common access tools used to climb up or down or reach elevated work areas, and under Cal-OSHA standards (for example, Title 8 CCR § 3276 for portable ladders) employers must ensure that ladders are selected for the task, maintained in good condition, inspected for visible defects before use, and used only for their intended purpose. Safe practices include placing ladders on a secure, level footing, maintaining three points of contact when ascending or descending, facing the ladder during use, and not standing on the top rungs unless the ladder is designed for that purpose.
