Radiation Safety

The purpose of the Radiation Safety Program is to assure the safe use of ionizing radiation through training, consultation, and surveillance consistent with government regulations.

Cal Poly possesses a specific license of broad scope issued by the State of California. The manual below covers the radiation safety program for all radioisotope use on campus. All principal investigators and radioisotope users are required to comply with all of its provisions, as well as the conditions of the Radiation Use Authorization (RUA). If you have any questions regarding the use of radiation on campus, please contact Melonee Cruz at mecruse@calpoly.edu.

Radiation producing machines have a potential to expose individuals to hazardous amounts of radiation if not operated properly. The X-Ray Safety Manual provides campus policies and procedures to assure safe operation of radiation producing machines on campus.
