Catastrophic Leave Drive Donation Program
The Catastrophic Leave Drive Donation Program allows employees who have exhausted their leave credits and must miss work because of a prolonged illness or injury (including that of an eligible family member) to request catastrophic leave. Any employee who accrues sick leave and/or vacation may donate leave credits to other employees on the same campus, regardless of bargaining unit representation. Donated leave may be used by an employee who has a catastrophic illness or injury and has exhausted all types of pay normally available to cover the required absence from work. This may also be due to the effect of a natural disaster/state of emergency on the employee’s principal residence
Employees are also eligible to receive catastrophic leave drive donations due to a catastrophic illness or injury of an immediate family member.
Immediate family member includes:
- The employee's spouse or domestic partner;
- The employee's, spouse's or domestic partner's parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, sibling, child or grandchild (including foster, adopted and step);
- The employee's child-in-law; and
- A person living in the immediate household of the employee, except domestic employees, roomers, boarders, and/or roommates.
The amount of hours that can be donated during a fiscal year vary per employee category. Please refer to the Cal Poly Catastrophic Leave Program Flyer.
